Listening to the Voices of Black and Hispanic women on access and affordable Healthcare in Mississippi

a collaboration between Clean Slate Behavioral Health Solutions and Mississippi Black Women's Roundtable

Nearly 100,000 uninsured low-income nonelderly adults in Mississippi face a healthcare coverage gap.

This project aimed to empower communities of color, who are experiencing lack of proper healthcare, in four target areas: MS Delta, Gulf Coast, Northeastern (Tupelo Area) and Central Mississippi. Through focus groups, we were able to give a voice to the women who are directly impacted by healthcare in Mississippi. Women were able to share their concerns and shed light on the need for high-quality, affordable, accessible healthcare for all.

Mississippi Contraceptive Study

Partnership with University of California-San Francisco and Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable

Over a two-year period, we conducted in-depth interviews (34) and six focus groups (35 individuals each) with Black women over age 18 in Mississippi, exploring their access to contraceptive care. One goal of the study is based on the belief that equity requires engagement with the anti-Black racism impact on contraceptive care experiences and prioritization of Black women’s needs in program and policy design. The study sheds light on the racial and socio-economic barriers to high quality contraceptive available to Black women.
