CSBHS is partnering with UCSF on a Black Male Reproductive Health Project in Mississippi.

We are excited to announce a new project with the University of California San Francisco focused on black male reproductive health. The project intent is to explore and understand the sexual and reproductive health needs and perspectives of Black men in Mississippi. Reproductive health and rights are largely relegated as solely an issue of concern to women in the residing culture. Understanding men’s investment, values, and attitudes toward sexual and reproductive health may inform strategies to unlock male mobilization in support of enshrining reproductive health services, such as abortion. The study will conduct a formative qualitative study of Black men’s attitudes and experiences toward sexual and reproductive health and healthcare, with a focus on contraception and abortion. Through this study, social norms will be described around contraception and abortion among Black men in MS and the values they hold related to pregnancy prevention and fatherhood.  The findings will be translated into recommendations for community mobilization efforts to engage males in advocating for improved sexual reproductive health programs and policies in the state.

Interviewers for the project are (image from left to right) Mr. Andrew Campbell, Mr. Mac Epps, Dr. Timothy Neyland, and Mr. Kwasi Omari.

Stay tuned for our findings, which will be published on our website under “resources”.
